Bufferbox/Disk plans
The fact that JohnG pulled two fibers was a lucky break, which enabled us to run the 2-BB scheme. All Switches capable of doing Jumbo are just too expensive.
That sort of limits the ping-pong games with 2x2 boxes, etc.
We can’t really absorb more data rate, the only thing that helps big time is the buffer capacity - we can go for two days without HPSS transfers in an emergency now.
When the time comes, we will swap the CPU’s with the then latest model.
We have 5.6Tb prime bufferbox disk space, 500G from oldbigdisk, and 32*25G on the VA’s.
upgrade the VA’s to 100, 120, or whatever is in the $250 raneg for an IDE next summer
try a variant of the “545” project - 545 stands for “5TB for 5K” -- build an array of IDE’s to replace oldbigdisk
Today’s oldbigdisk to become /home for subsystems
