Example of information hiding
Imagine you ask someone from a different experiment what the momentum distribution of neutral particles is because you want to compare their findings with what you have got. What can happen is
a) some nice guy does or already did that analysis, gives you a table, and you are done.
b) somebody gives you a number of convoluted tables, numbers, and instructions, and says “now you can easily calculate the distribution… oh, one more thing, don’t forget the correction for multiplicity…”
Information hiding can make your life a lot easier.
