Wa98 High Voltage Generator Description

August 23, 1995

Status

The high voltage generator and controller exits and is in use at the Cern WA98 experiment.

System Summary

The 9984 detector channels will be required for the PbGl experiment on Phenix. The WA98 high voltage generator can control 512 channels per port. There are 4 ports on the HIVOC for a total of 2048 detector channels per HIVOC. Five HIVOC controllers required for the PbGl experiment experiment at PHENIX.

EPICS interface to the HIVOC

The HIVOC is a VME memory mapped controller board. An EPICS driver will be required for this device.

Schedule

The PbGl experiment is scheduled to be installed in PHENIX in December 1997.

Prototype delivery

There is 1 HIVOC controller on hand at AGS.

Interface Development requirements

The HIVOC will be controlled through the EPICS control system. An EPICS driver will be written to control the high voltage through the EPICS analog output record. At this time Phenix engineering may develop a front end interface for the high voltage controller.
