Linux S/W upgrades
The Linux setup in 1008 is binary-compatible with the RCAS machines, so libraries built there can load here. That has proven to be a godsend - we do not build most of the nightly rebuilt libs in 1008 ourselves.
That said, RH6.2 is old and we need to move on. Some dedicated machines (BB’s, some file servers) already run Kernel 2.4.x/ RH7.1/2. Some new hardware isn’t supported on 2.2.x any more.
In February, we will start the upgrade process at RCF. Then we will follow with our machines in waves. ETA April or so.
We expect no problems with the online libraries, they already run on the buffer boxes just fine. Corba is ok, Objectivity V7.x on Linux expected in March.
We have some say in what RCF installs (compiler, Kernel, etc) - hey, it’s mostly Dave, Chris, and I anyway who drive this.
