Network Issues
We have a “DAQ” network (98) connected to the BNL backbone through an OC3 ATM uplink
Historically, 98 was all over the place (510, 902, 905) - lots of places still have a small 98 segment - I have been struggling to get those back, mixed success so far
The buffer boxes have dual interfaces on 98 and 192.168.30.x for the HPSS Jumbo network
All the rest, including the trailer, is on 98. Switched, but still. Next slide.
ITD asked for money to upgrade the network uplink to Gigabit and get us a new CISCO switch, looks hopeful.
We try to segregate network connections through local switches - one GB uplink, then fast ethernet locally (SEB’s, VA Boxes). HP Procurve switches seem to be the best hardware for us. Get rid of the cable bundles running to the CISCO and reserve prime CISCO ports for ATP’s and other high-speed stuff. Other candidates are the Crate Controllers, desktops in the control room ,…
Other than the cable issue, we manage those switches -- big advantage.
