HEPP vs URHIC
High-Energy Particle Physics:
- Aims at detection of (predicted) new particles and symmetries (e.g. Higgs, SUSY particles).
- Simplicity is obtained producing as few particles in the final-state as possible.
- A single signal usually suffices (e.g. mH distribution).
-
Ultra-Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions:
- Aims at the detection of a new phase of matter, made of the known quanta.
- Simplicity is obtained by producing as many particles in the final state as possible.
- Several independent and concurrent signals needed.
