Summary
PHENIX hard-probes results for Run-1:
- Au+Au @ ÖsNN = 130 GeV. 5M events, L ~ mb-1
- Charged hadrons, p0, and e± at mid-rapidity (|h|<0.35)
High-pT charged hadron and p0 spectra measured up to 5 GeV/c
- Peripheral collisions consistent with scaled pp
- 40-60% suppression in central collisions in qualitative agreement with parton energy loss in opaque medium.
- Confirmation of "jet quenching" effect requires determining nuclear PDFs in the relevant (x,Q2,A) region: pA collisions
High-pT meson-baryon composition :
- Meson-baryon yield crossing at pT ~ 2 GeV/c very different from pp data
- No conclusive explanation yet ...
Single electron spectrum:
- Consistent with pp scaled open charm production (i.e. no apparent medium effect) but large uncertainties yet.
Strong hard-probe signals expected in ongoing analysis of Run-2
