Why the Logical Tube Must Be OK
The hardware requirements essentially triple if logical tubes cannot be used.
- Due to possible multiple scattering, the horizontal processing would need to look at West-only, East-only and West/East together; and analagous for vertical processing.
- East/West is identical to processing with logical tubes as proposed. East-only, etc. is identical except half the tubes are input in each case (there are the same number of symsets).
- For ultimate flexibility in this regard, one would process an entire gap in a Board-1, but the cross-stitching requirements for such a scheme are impossible.
- So, if we couldn’t go with logical tubes we’d build the same hardware, but three crates worth.
