Research Interests

It has been an extraordinary difficult issue both in experimental and theoretical study to disentangle the processes of confining quarks and gluons, and gaining a hundred times bigger mass than the sum of bare quark masses. The purpose of relativistic heavy ion collisions is to create a bulk matter of deconfined quarks and gluons, Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) that lattice Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) predicts to exist in sufficiently hot and dense environment, and to study its behavior by applying methods from statistical mechanics. The big advantage of this approach is that it is possible to explore the characteristics of the strong interaction at various energy region including the one where perturbative QCD does not work.

I am particluarly interested in looking at directly radiating probes such as photons or dileptons. High pT hadrons have also been of interest on investigating the "denseness" of the matter created at RHIC.

In addition to the above, I am always enjoying developing a new detection device. The Hadron blind detector at the PHENIX experiment I am heavily involved in is new in the sense that it employs a new electron multiplier, GEM.
