I joined the Baruch College group led by Stefan Bathe in June of 2022, and then became a part of the furniture in 1008 in October of that year.
My hardware work at sPHENIX is primarily dealing with the Hadronic Calorimeter, with some transfer knowledge to the Electromagnetic Calorimeter and just enough knowledge of the DAQ to be dangerous. In my analysis work, I focus on Energy Correlators in jets, which is a substructure measurement.
I am originally from Mount Kisco, NY which is just about an hour north of NY by train. I got a Bachelor's in Math and Physics at Columbia from 2014-2017. I started out in research in 2012 working with Michael Tuts at Columbia on Higgs to Zgamma decays, then did work in undergrad on the MilliQan experiment, a milli-charge particle detector scheduled to go into place in the counting room at P5 at the LHC, some work with the Nevis ATLAS group, then graduated early to spend what would have been my final semester of undergrad working on the Inner Tracking Detector at ATLAS with the University of Toronto group. Additionally, from 2016-2020, I worked with Al Mueller at Columbia on behavior of the BK equation at higher twist.
The (working) title of my PhD is "Measuring Gluon initiated jets and parton dependent quenching with Energy Correlators in
\sqrt(s_NN )=200 GeV Au+Au and p+p at sPHENIX". I have not yet had the opportunity to give a talk on my work at sPHENIX, but I look forwards to soon being able to.
My decision to go into Heavy Ion Research was significantly impacted by my time working with Al Mueller. I had previously worked on particle physics only, having started doing research just as the Higgs Boson discovery was coming to a peak--I joined my first lab two days after the announcement of the official discovery in 2012--but in my work with Al, I discovered a love of the additional complexities of Heavy Ions, and the avenues for deeper understanding that we're on offer.
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and baking, although my ability to recreate my own recipes is limited as I tend to approach both very improvisationally. I also run and rock climb, both not particularly well, and ski when possible. I'm currently building a synth from scratch and plan to get a pickup working to allow me to distort and build from music from my violin. And when I can, I love to go to Broadway.
I was scheduled to bartend for the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2020, however, that unfortunately fell through
