RHIC Run 2001: First Collisions Recorded Last Week!
- Increase of collision energy from 65 GeV/A to 100 GeV/A.
- Four times longer than last year’s run.
Some new analyses that will be possible:
- Increased statistics on all previous measurements - at a higher energy.
- More data on jets.
- Rare particles that can be seen by measuring electrons and muons. One example is the J/Y particle.
- Measurement of photons directly from the collision center.
- Collisions of polarized proton beams. Where does the proton get it’s spin?
