PHENIX Design Philosophy

? Detect hadrons, electrons, muons, photons to

measure as many potential signatures of QGP

as possible.

? Capability for high rate with pp, pA, AA

collisions. ( 100Hz for Au+Au central and

~10kHz for p+p min. bias events)

? Sensitive to very small cross section process

by triggering on exclusive leptons, photons,

and high pt hadrons with good momentum

and energy resolution.
