Minutes of the high energy beam test telephone meeting - July 28, 1998 Attendants: BNL: Sebastian White, Naohito Saito, Yuji Goto ORNL: Terry Awes CERN: Mischa Ippolitov Muenster: Damian Bucher * Schedule The ALICE group will start installation (trigger etc.) from Aug.24 or Aug.25 morning. After some PHOS test, PHENIX will start beam time (4 days long ?). ALICE are planning to use their own platform with their cooling machine. It will be placed downstream of our platform. There is possibility to put all three calorimeters (PbSc, PbGl and PHOS) on the same platform to take data in turn with same beam particle and same energy instead of dividing beam time for PHENIX and ALICE. This will save time to change setup of CEDAR which takes a few hours each time. Scheduling issue will be discussed in the ALICE group. * Position Detector If PHENIX and ALICE use respective platform, PHENIX have to find another position detector. (ALICE uses their scintillator hodoscope.) No delay line readout chamber is available at CERN. (Mischa will ask Konrad or somebody again.) Wire chamber will be checked at Muenster. (gas - Ar/Methane) To summarize, there are three solution; 1. to find delay chamber or other chamber 2. to put all three calorimeters on the same platform 3. to make beam divergence small to put scintillator hodoscope far * Setup ALICE will set ADC at the fence and others at the counting house. There is no patch panel at the counting house. All cables cannot be provided at CERN. (about 70m to the counting house, about 10-15m to the fence) It takes about 1.5microsec to make trigger signal for the shaping. Trigger signal is available both at the counting house and at the fence. Readout and control of the platform is available only at the counting house. For non-orthogonal incidence, crane work will be necessary. How can we align the setup ? (0, 10, 20 degree) Survey works will be necessary for the setup. Analogue scope will be brought from ORNL. HV power supply 10mA-2kV * 3 exist at CERN. We have not found power converter 220V->110V, 30A@110 yet. * DAQ New DAQ (pDAQ + pstuff) is now on preparation at 902A. Histograming is ready now on shared section to monitor it on paw. We are checking WA98 board serial data, laser data, cosmic muon data etc. * Equipments from BNL (from Edward's list - http://emcal01.rhic.bnl.gov/~emcal/README and Damian's list) For PbSc Standalone SM Laser with trigger PIN and Ham.
