Hello, welcome to my page at Brookhaven National Laboratories.

Since Sept. 1. 1997 I
work as a physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory,
(BNL) , in Upton
on Long Island,
close to New York,
USA. |
Our group is operating the PHENIX experiment to study the secrets of the proton spin and high-energy Au+Au, d-AU and Cu-CU collisions at 100GeV/c per nucleon, which translates to nearly the speed of light for these ions. It will all take place at the Relativistic-Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) , the ring in the picture on the upper left, here at Brookhaven. |

The experiment Phenix (44kB jpg picture) contains several subdetectors (17kB jpg picture of one central detector arm). We built the so called time-expansion-chambers (TEC, some general information ), these are a special kind of multi-wire-proportional chambers. By separating the drift and multiplication stage detailed information about the energy loss of the charged particle can be measured, helping to identify the particle type. In 2003 we modified these chambers to operate as Transition Radiation detectors to improve the identification of electrons. |
|
From the summer of 1999 till the fall of 2000 I served as the PHENIX Run Coordinator
for the first RHIC run during the commissioning period of 1999 and the first year of data taking in 2000. Currently I worry about the magnetic field maps for our 3 Magnets and the operation of our Time_Expansion / Transition Radiation Chambers.
