Time Expansion Chamber
The
Time
Expansion Chamber
is one of the Subsystems in the PHENIX
Tracking System. It is composed of 4
sectors per arm with
6
planes per sector .
The main functions of the Phenix TEC are:
-
To track all charged particles passing through the region between the RICH
and the EMCal
-
To identify tracks entering from outside the fiducial volume
-
To determine the particle species using dE/dx information and the trasition
radiation detection (after the TRD upgrade).
Several prototypes have been built and the operation
performance has been verified with in-beam
tests.
