Brief history of the Electron Ion Collider....
EIC = eRHIC + EPIC
The eRHIC and EPIC projects merged since September 2000.
Useful information on the the eRHIC and EPIC Collider projects and the studies performed
at various workshops can be found at their respective webpages:
The EPIC Project:
Polarized electron and polarized proton/light-ion collider with 3-5 GeV
polarized electrons and 30-50 GeV polarized protons or light ions. The
physics motivation and potential for such a collider were studied at the
following EPIC workshops:
The eRHIC at BNL:
Possibility of a future Polarized
e-p & e-A Collider at BNL using the existing RHIC ring and to that
adding an electron beam facility of about 10 GeV beam energy and of high
polarization. Polarized ep collisions with 10 GeV electrons and 250 GeV
(RHIC) polarized protons are envisioned. The 10 GeV electrons could also
collide with the 100 GeV/A RHIC heavy ion beam to explore the nuclear structure
at high parton density. This option was studied in the following dedicated
workshops:
